How to convert a PDF to PNG

Three steps, and your file stays on your device the whole time.

  1. 1

Drop a PDF into the drop box

Or click to browse for it. Nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

Pick a size and a background

2× is sharp on any screen. Transparent leaves the paper out.

  3. 3

Click Save and download your images

One PNG per page in a zip, or copy a single page straight to the clipboard.

When to turn a PDF into PNG

PNG keeps every edge exactly as drawn, which is what slides, designs, and screens want. These are the usual ones.

A chart or diagram for a slide

Pick Transparent and Trim, and the figure sits on any slide color with no white box around it. A page that paints its own white, as a scan does, stays white.

An image at an exact width

A website, a design, or a document template asks for 1920 pixels wide. Type the width and every image comes out at exactly that, with the height shown before you save.

One page to paste somewhere

Pick a single page and Copy image puts it on the clipboard. Paste it straight into a chat, an email, a document, or a design tool, with no file saved.

Text and screenshots that must stay crisp

JPG blurs the edges of letters and lines a little. PNG is lossless, so small text, code, and interface screenshots come out exactly as they were drawn.

A figure out of a paper

Trim crops each image to what the page draws, with a sliver of padding. It turns a page holding one chart into an image of just the chart.

Converting PDF to PNG, answered

Is my file uploaded anywhere?+

No. Your PDF is read from your device and each page is rendered and saved by your browser. It never leaves your computer or phone.

Is it free to convert a PDF to PNG here?+

Yes. There is no watermark, no page limit, and no account. The pages are drawn by your browser, so there is nothing for us to charge for.

What do I get?+

One PNG per page, numbered by page, inside a zip. If you pick a single page you get that one PNG on its own, with no zip around it.

What resolution are the images?+

You choose in pixels. 1× is the page at its size on a screen, a Letter page 612 pixels wide; 2× and 3× are that for dense displays and zooming in. Or type an exact width, such as 1920, and every image comes out that wide. The size you will get shows before you save.

Can the background be transparent?+

Yes. Pick Transparent and the paper is left out, so a logo or a diagram sits on any color in a slide or a design. A page that paints its own white background, as scans do, stays white.

Can I get just the figure, without the page around it?+

Yes. Set Margins to Trim and each image is cropped to what the page draws, with a sliver of padding. It suits a chart or a diagram out of a paper. A blank page is left whole.

The PNG files are large. Can they be smaller?+

Yes. Set Colors to Smaller file and each image keeps the 256 colors that suit it best. Text, charts, and screenshots look the same at about a quarter of the size. Photos can show bands, so leave those on Full or use the PDF to JPG tool.

Can I copy the image instead of downloading it?+

Yes. Pick a single page and a Copy image button appears beside Save, and again on the result screen. Paste it straight into a chat, a document, or a design tool.

Why PNG and not JPG?+

PNG is lossless, so text edges, lines, and flat color stay exactly as drawn. That suits pages of text, diagrams, and screenshots. JPG is much smaller for photos and scans, and can be held under a size limit for upload forms; use the PDF to JPG tool for those.

Can I convert only some pages?+

Yes. Every page starts picked. Click a page to leave it out, shift click to change a run, or type ranges like 1-3, 7, 12-15.

Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows?+

Yes. It runs in any current browser, Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox, on a computer, a phone, or a tablet. There is nothing to install and no account to make.

Is there a file size limit?+

No. There is no set limit and no daily cap. Your own device does the work, and files of a few hundred megabytes are fine on a laptop.
