When to remove a watermark from a PDF
Most watermarks are added on purpose and outlive their purpose. These are the usual reasons to take one off.
The unmarked copy is gone
You watermarked a file, kept only that copy, and now need it clean. A watermark added as one comes off without touching the rest of the page.
A watermark added in Acrobat
Acrobat marks the watermarks it adds, and keeps a copy of their text to edit later. Both are deleted from the file.

Which watermarks can it remove?+
Watermarks the PDF itself marks as watermarks: those added with Adobe Acrobat, with our Watermark PDF tool, and with other programs that follow the PDF standard. It also removes watermark annotations and stamps such as DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL. It finds them for you and shows how many each page has.
Why can it not remove the watermark from my file?+
Some programs draw the watermark straight into the page, as ordinary text or as part of a scanned picture. Then nothing in the file says which text is the watermark, and taking it out would mean guessing what else goes with it. This tool does not guess. If it finds no marked watermark, it says so and leaves your file alone.
Is the watermark text really gone?+
Yes. The watermark is deleted from the file, not only hidden, and so is the copy of its settings Acrobat keeps to edit it later. Someone opening the saved PDF in any program will not find it.
Will the rest of the page change?+
No. Only the watermark and the stamps you chose are removed. The text, images, and layout of each page stay exactly as they were.
Can I remove any watermark I like?+
Remove watermarks from your own documents, or from ones you have the right to change. A watermark often says who owns a document, or that it is only a draft.
Can I remove a watermark from a password protected PDF?+
Yes, if you know the password. Type it when the file is added. Tick Keep the password before saving and the new PDF opens with the same one.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, Mac, and Windows?+
Yes. It runs in any current browser, Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox, on a computer, a phone, or a tablet. There is nothing to install and no account to make.
Is there a file size limit?+
No. There is no set limit and no daily cap. Your own device does the work, and files of a few hundred megabytes are fine on a laptop.
