Security

A PDF website that works on its own computers has to receive your file, keep it for a while, and send it back. For that time a copy sits on their servers, where a breach, a mistake in their setup, or anyone with access could reach it.

ElectricPDF has no such copy. The tools run in your browser, on your device, so the only place your file exists is the place it already was.

You do not have to take our word for it. Any browser on a computer can show every request a page makes.

• Open a tool, then open the browser's developer tools and pick the Network tab.
• Drop a PDF in, make a change, and save it.
• The list shows the page fetching its own code, and small reports to our own domain that count the visit and the tool use. Your file never appears in it, because it is never sent.

The tools are built on open source libraries that are widely used and reviewed: pdf.js from Mozilla to draw pages, pdf-lib to build new PDFs, qpdf to add and remove passwords, and MozJPEG to make images smaller.

All of it is served from electricpdf.com itself. The one other script counts visits and tool use, on our own domain; the Privacy page lists what it sends, and your file is never part of it. The pages show no ads.

Protect PDF encrypts files with 256 bit AES, the strongest encryption a PDF can have. Unlock PDF and every other tool that opens a protected file use the password you type once, in memory, and then let it go.

A password is never saved, never sent, and never written into the session a tool keeps so a reload does not lose your work. A session holding a file that needed a password is not saved at all.
